Branch News

Over the past 2-3 years, the OD office has been receiving inquiries from ODs who have moved to European countries and have asked about OD representation in this geographical area.

Previously, we have only covered France.

The ODU Committee has resolved to expand the French branch into a “Europe” branch, under the secretaryship of Simon Burrow (1968,F).

Simon has been the Branch Secretary for France since its inception ten years ago. Prior to that he has been the OD UCT Secretary in the early 1970s (branch now defunct) and Central Karoo Branch Secretary (late1970s). He has served on the OD Committee (2019-2020) and is currently a co-opted member on the (2021-2023) Committee holding positions within the Communications and Invest in Our Future Foundation portfolios.

We have extracted all the names of ODs who live in the following countries:

France

Germany

Austria

Italy

Netherlands

Belgium

Luxembourg

Switzerland

Monaco

Hungary

Czech Republic

Spain

Portugal

Denmark

Sweden

Our records indicate that 112 ODs live in these countries.

However, there may be more!

We would ask if you could check your listing details on OD Connect (odunion.com) and make sure that you are registered and that all your details are correct.

A separate email will be sent to all the names we have on the database in the next two weeks, verifying addresses and location, plus sketching out the plans we have for the new Branch.

The ODU office will be updating the website to reflect this new Branch with current contact details.

Students of geography would have noticed that the countries mentioned are all European Union or EU-aligned countries.

If we follow this logic, then the Republic of Ireland - which sits currently in the United Kingdom orbit - should be there too.

We’ll leave that to the Irish to decide!

If you wish to contact Simon directly, here are his details:
