Under the expert guidance of former Wales and Lions captain Michael Owen, rugby is a core part of the sporting programme at Haileybury.
The set up at Haileybury comes under our Director of Rugby Michael Owen (ex-Wales and British and Irish Lions Captain and Level 4 coach). Running a team of 20+ highly-invested coaches – with a wide-range of experience and quality – Michael ensures that every pupil is exposed to the very latest coaching techniques. The addition of a strength and conditioning coach has further boosted the opportunities for our players to maximise their athleticism and develop into the best athletes they can be.
A key part of the success we enjoy at Haileybury lies in the generous funding rugby receives here.
In particular, we are particularly lucky to have very generous financial support from the Old Haileyburian RFC who contribute significantly each year both in terms of new equipment and subsidising tours.
This ensures that the College is able to invest in a continuous upgrading and improvement of facilities, ensuring that Haileybury is able to endeavour to reach the top of the schoolboy game in the UK.
Sports Scholars are those that are seen to have one of the key attributes of Attitude, Skills or Athleticism for rugby/ Scholarships for talented rugby players are hotly contested; the best will also be invited to join our High Performance Sports Programme.
Tours form a regular part of the rugby set up at Haileybury. An enormous amount can be learnt: on the rugby field, there can’t have ever been a better pre-season training experience, enabling us to start the season with real impetus, but from a more global perspective.
Bishops is hosting Haileybury School (UK) for this feature on Friday 21 July 2023 at the Piley Rees. All ODs are invited to join and stay after the match for refreshments.
