Daniel Brodie is currently studying at UCT with Dr. Esthea Kruger towards his MMus degree. Concurrently, he teaches piano at Bishops Diocesan College and is highly sought after as an accompanist and recitalist in the Cape. He completed his BMus specializing in solo piano performance at the University of Stellenbosch under the guidance of Professor Nina Schumann. In recent years, he has performed as a soloist with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra, participating in their concerto festivals and competition final rounds. He has recently participated in the 2023 UNISA National Piano Competition in Pretoria as one of ten pianists selected for the live rounds. The highlight of his 2021 concert season was being invited by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra to perform as a professional soloist for the Huberte Rupert Memorial Concert in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch, where he played Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto in C Minor.
In October 2021, Daniel won the Lionel Bowman Beethoven Competition and the instrumental category of the Mabel Quick Competition. In 2020, he was a finalist in the Mabel Quick Competition, winning the best second-year prize. In 2019, he achieved third place at the National Youth Musical Competition. He has been an active participant in the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival and the Stellenbosch International Piano Symposium. In addition to his piano achievements, Daniel received the Golden Key Award every year for academic excellence since his first year at Stellenbosch University. Prior to studying at Stellenbosch University, he participated in numerous national music competitions throughout South Africa. He has attended masterclasses with renowned pianists, including Aviram Reichert, Brian Wallick, Agnese Eglina, Luis Magalhães, and Francois du Toit.
