The ODU Patron Elect - Judge Craig Howie (1956G)

Judge Craig Howie nominated as Patron for ODU: A worthy successor to Raymond Ackerman

Following Raymond Ackerman's resignation as the patron of the Old Diocesans' Union at last year's Annual General Meeting, the ODU committee has diligently considered a fitting successor for this important position.

In an important email to all our ODs over the weekend, our President, David Carter (1958G), announced that Judge Craig Howie had been nominated and accepted the nomination as Patron, for approval at the upcoming AGM on March 6, 2024. The role of Patron, requires the committee to propose a candidate that then needs to be approved by a majority vote at the AGM.

The ideal candidate is described as an OD who exemplifies qualities such as seniority, widespread respect within the ODU, a lifelong association with Bishops, significant leadership, and the ability to bring dignity to Bishops and the ODU.

Judge Craig Howie, a distinguished OD, embodies all of these.  His association with Bishops dates back to his matriculation in 1956, and his notable achievements include being a school prefect, a member of the Ten Club, and Senior Student Officer in the Cadet Corps.

The committee, led by Chairman, Martin Bey (1990B), looks forward to the AGM on March 6, 2024, where Judge Howie's nomination will be presented to the ODU membership for approval.

If accepted, he will step into the role as a worthy successor to the late Raymond Ackerman (1948S), carrying forward the tradition of excellence and leadership within the ODU.
