Nick Searle (1998O) reported that the 2026 Annual Ontario OD Barbeque / Braai was a great success, with 12 attendees, gathering on Beach Boulevard in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, about one hour from Toronto.
Their hosts, Dr. Erik Juriaans and his wife Lyn, welcomed them to their beautiful home on Lake Ontario. The location was spectacular: a narrow strip of land crossing Lake Ontario, with open eastward views across one of the five Great Lakes of North America.
Erik proved a master of the gas BBQ, our Canadian version of the braai, while Lyn managed the kitchen with wonderful hospitality. We were especially pleased to be joined by John Hueton, who turns 96 this month, and his wife Elinor, accompanied by Richard Townsend, recently 85. Richard’s beef boerewors and bean salad were memorable contributions to the table.
Justin Debeer and his wife Bev brought excellent conversation and chicken boerewors, and melktert. David Alford, his wife Anka, and daughter Jamie were warmly welcomed as a new addition to the Ontario OD "extended family".
It was a relaxed and joyful gathering, full of good food, conversation, family, and enduring Bishops fellowship in Canada.
