As part of the Big Ideas programme at Bishops, a group of Grade 10 boys have been supporting a small orphanage and educare centre in Langa, raising funds to purchase a habitable premises so that the organisation can be registered as a place of safety for abandoned children. The boys have visited Langa weekly to read stories and play games with the children.
At the end of last year, tragedy struck when the house mother and primary carer was caught in cross-fire and shot. She survived the incident but full recovery will take time. The Bishops boys approached the Sisanda FunDaytion, a small non-profit that arranges recreational experiences for children who have little or no access to our beautiful city. A much needed outing to the beach has been planned for the young children of VUKA Orphanage and Educare and they are trying to raise funds to cover some of the costs for the outing.
These simple outings give children the opportunity to experience the joy of being children.
