A letter from OZ

James and Elizabeth Wood pictured here have made a life in Western Australia. Read the letter they sent to family and friends with their latest news.

Elizabeth and James (1954F) migrated from South Africa in 1984, with their three children, son Duncan and daughters Fiona and Elizabeth.

They brought with them carefully selected protea seeds, 25 years of experience in the floriculture industry in South Africa and a commitment to successfully grow protea cut flowers for export.

Starting from scratch, they planted the seeds, established the plantations, slowly built the infrastructure and grew the business.  At times it was challenging, hard and tedious. It was the family’s sheer determination, hard work and will power to succeed that made it all possible.

This they did whilst balancing environmental conservation and development and addressing ‘Landcare’ issues with minimal environmental pollution as a high priority.

Their farm of 168 acres and business "Protea Pride" is now a major exporter to the Japanese market. It remains a family owned and managed business venture and continues to grow, process and export fresh cut flowers.
