Michael Justin Pargiter (1946F) | 1929 - 2020 

Michael Pargiter, aged 91, died September 16th 2020, at home in Cape Town. Michael attended Bishops Preparatory School and Diocesan College from 1940-1947. He was a boarder in Founders House (known by his nickname Welay), and was equally successful in both the classroom and on the sports field. He was Junior Victor Ludorum, earned his rugby and sports colours, and was a Student Officer in the Cadet Corps. He was proud to be an OD.

Michael went on to attend UCT, playing U19 rugby, and then qualified as a chartered accountant in 1954. He enjoyed his involvement in Assocom and served as president of the Port Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce.

Sport remained a passion for Michael, from rugby to squash, sailing, and cycling in later years. Throughout his life, Michael was a gentleman, first and foremost. He was always happy to listen and share his love of history and insightful perspectives. Michael is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth, his four daughters, Anne, Jane, Susan and Nicola, and six beloved grandchildren. His Christian faith guided his adult life and provided him with much comfort. Michael will be greatly missed.

Father Monwabisi Peter of Bishops conducted a simple and moving service in the school’s Garden of Remembrance, with a plaque to remember Michael.
