Forum
Mr Willem Coetzee addressed Forum at The Mitre on Monday, 27 March 2023, on the latest trends in AI (Artificial Intelligence) explaining the different systems that use algorithms, data analytics, and machine learning techniques to analyze and understand complex data, identify patterns, and make predictions or decisions based on that data.
He explained while AI has the potential to revolutionize many areas of our lives, it is still a developing technology and faces challenges such as ethical concerns around privacy, bias, and the impact on the workforce. Therefore, it is important to continue to monitor and regulate the development and deployment of AI to ensure that it maximizes benefits and minimizes potential harms.
Willem, a qualified electrical engineer, gave a brilliant presention that left our learners, some of which are AI specialists, speechless.
Lingua Franca
Mr Geoffrey Ashmead (1964W) addressed Lingua Franca on the topic of corruption which those going to start up in business should understand and be vigilant of. By being proactive and implementing effective anti-corruption measures, entrepreneurs can protect their businesses, employees, and customers from its damaging effects. Mr Ashmead provided practical examples to enable the students to understand how corruption exists in the financial sector even if it is not always visible. He left the members of Lingua Franca with a great deal to think about in this area.
