Dear Bishops Community

It is unbelievable to think that we have almost hit the mid-year mark of 2019, and with this comes with what I believe is the greatest ‘all encompassing’ celebration in the school year, and that is the Bishops Eisteddfod. What always amazes me is the amount of thought, energy and passion that is placed by the gentlemen of Bishops into this event and there surely is no greater heartfelt response to a House winning the Eisteddfod Owl or the Interhouse Singing Competition. If this is your first Bishops Eisteddfod, you are in for a treat. If you are working, could I suggest you try and take a bit of time off and spend a few hours with us – the Eisteddfod is the time when you will get to see what actually takes place daily deep in the creative bowels of the school. The other wonderful thing about the Bishops Eisteddfod is that every year it exposes talent that we, as staff, did not even know existed in boys and boys discover talents that they never thought they had.

So what do you need to know about in order to enjoy the full Bishops Eisteddfod experience?

To find out more about the Eisteddfod, including programme details and lists of finalists in each category, please visit the Eisteddfod website at:

By going to the above website, you will also be able to track results, see who has made it through to the finals and who has scored points for their House by participating in the preliminary rounds. The website will be updated regularly during the Eisteddfod days so we encourage you to visit the website regularly.

The Inter-house Singing Competition will take place on Wednesday 12th June starting at 7:00pm at Every Nation Church, N1 City, click here to find a map with directions to the venue.

As happened in the past we will be selling the tickets for this year’s competition online, through the Tixsa website. The tickets sales for the Interhouse Singing will go live on Tuesday 4 June at 6:00am and the various seating categories are priced at R80, R140, R160 and R180 – same prices as last year. You can either click here to go to the Tixsa website or you can go to the Bishops Eisteddfod Website find the link there.

Please note that the term officially ends on the Wednesday evening after the Interhouse Singing.

This year, for the first time, we will be selling tickets for the Movement Section, which takes place on Tuesday 11th June. The following changes have been made:
  • We will run the Movement Section in TWO halves. The first session will begin at 3:00pm and will involve Mallett, Ogilvie, Birt, Founders and the second session will begin at 4:30pm and will involve White, Kidd, Gray, School.
  • Tickets (R30.00 per ticket for parents and visitors) can be purchased online through Tixsa and these sales will open on Wednesday 5 June at 6:00 am, and will be limited to 4 tickets per purchase.
  • Click to book online for SESSION ONE (Mallett, Ogilvie, Birt, Founders).
  • Click to book online for SESSION TWO (White, Kidd, Gray, School).
  • We have allocated an equal proportion of seats to boys and to parents. NO BISHOPS BOY will be admitted to the Theatre on a PURCHASED TICKET – purchased tickets are for parents and visitors only. Tickets for Bishops boys will be managed through their Houses.
  • Purchasing of a ticket only entitles you to a seat for that particular session as the Theatre will be cleared between sessions in order to clean and set up for the second session.
  • For those who are unable to obtain tickets, we will again have an HD live feed to the Hub Tent and Old Gym, from where you will be able to watch ALL the performances.
  • Proceeds from the tickets sales of the Movement Section will be donated to the Bursary Fund.
Seating for the House Plays is unreserved on a first-come first-served basis. Plays are in the Memorial Theatre: Monday 7:00pm (White, Kidd, Gray, School) and Tuesday 7:00pm (Mallett, Ogilvie, Birt, Founders).

We will have Vida Café with us in the Hub Tent, which will be on the lawn outside the Memorial Chapel. There will be a live feed to the tent from various events so you will be able to watch events while enjoying a coffee. The school Tuckshop will also be open.

We would like to thank BDO for their continued support of this extraordinary event – without their financial support a lot of what happens would not be possible.

We are all looking forward to the Eisteddfod days - a time of new friendships, discovery and performance pleasure, before a wonderful and well-deserved holiday.

See you all at the Eisteddfod!

Best wishes
The Bishops Eisteddfod Team
