OD Rowing Club

Our Mission

Bishops Rowing Club presents a day and evening to celebrate and reminisce in lost memories with your high school mates!

The purpose of the evening will be to provide an opportunity for ODs to share their rowing stories which have impacted their life. The mentality and purpose rowing prepares an individual with is unparalleled, and it is these qualities we seek to develop in our Bishops Gentlemen now and into the future. These anecdotes of the [past will bring to life culture which has been lost and can be reinstated to the club. We call upon you Gentlemen to show us how to race and to share memories of the past!

The goal of the evening is multilayered and a special aspect will be to rekindle friendships with mates who you have lost contact with!

A portion of the evening will be to celebrate achievements with awards of individuals in the community specifically rowing orientated

Lastly it is important to plan and update those with vested interest in the club. Excitingly the club has raised funds to implement a new rowing tank, which will increase rowing’s footprint on campus, on the SE side of the Frank Reid Cricket Field. The Rowing Tank will without doubt be one of the most influential developments for the club, alongside the Clubhouse. The desire is to have a facility which will increase our numbers and provide an increased advantage against the North such that effective rowing can be learnt even when the NE & SE are blowing! Additionally a Five Year Plan will be introduced which will coincide with a ROwing reunion every five years. This we excitedly look forward to!

Background

Bishop's Rowing offers an opportunity to take part in an incredible sport that has a life-changing impact on everyone who is involved.  It has a value far beyond school and can open doors across the globe for participants after school.  This is often not recognised in the school and the broader community and it is our agenda to promote, showcase and develop the sport in the school and the province as much as possible. We rely on past results, stories and interest to drive this plan. I have been on the search, contacting, organizing, and drawing in, alongside the ODU, OD rowers from the inception of the club in 1976. Although the journey has been short I am blown away by the passion and draw OD’s feel towards the club, a history and people worth celebrating and your stories to be heard.

OD Rowing Reunion

The epic, first-of-its-kind reunion coincides with the 175 Founders week. The proposal is for OD’s to compile old crews and boost, puff and squeeze down the Vlei once again! The dinner will take place on Friday the 8th of March, with racing either the day of or on Saturday the 9th - depending on uptake.
