ODs at the quarterly 'Symposium' gathering

Each quarter, 'The Symposium' meets for general discussion and debate, over a good meal at a local restaurant in Cape Town.
L-R: Viljoen van Heerden, WP van Zyl, Gustav Loubser, Paul Murray, Khelan Dheda and John Woodland.

Sixteen years ago Paul Murray, the OD Ambassador, formed an OD society known as The Symposium

The meeting held, Wednesday 24 January 2024, was attended by Viljoen van Heerden (2011M), WP van Zyl (1997K), Gustav Loubser (2009B), Paul Murray (Staff, 1991 - ), Khelan Dheda (2021B) and John Woodland (2004K - PM, 2005)

At last night's meeting Dr WP van Zyl addressed the gathering on OD Gavin Cooper's book "The Killing of Elifas" (Gavin Cooper (1976,O)).  WP outlined the book and then proceeded to draw in related themes - illustrating from other OD authors such as William Dicey's acclaimed 'Borderline' (2004) (William Dicey (1998F)); and Christopher Danziger (1959G).

The audience was absolutely astounded at the amount of time and effort that had gone into the preparation, from reading the 512 page book, to the in-depth discussion and linking relevant points.

The speakers rotate, so they are looking forward to the next presentation, which will be from Khelan.
