To Vote for your preferred OD Candidate to be put forward to the Bishops Council nominations process, Click here

  1. How many people will each voter cast his vote/s for. Four
  2. How many names will be put forward to the Bishops Council Nominations Committee and why? Eight. The Bishops Council nominations committee is under no obligation to select the candidates put forward to the council. After numerous suggestions and discussions, the ODC decided it best to provide 8 democratically elected OD candidates to the nominations committee should any of the first 4 be rejected or be deemed unsuitable for the roles required.
  3. How many ODs could an OD nominate? as many as they wanted
  4. Could ODs nominate themselves? Yes
  5. How will there be an independent/observer role incorporated in the voting and counting process? The votes will be tallied by an independent party (ies) (i.e not a nominator, seconder or a candidate). The retired Justice Craig Howie (1956G) and James Foxcroft (1991K) will be performing this task.
  6. Will the observers be given free and unfettered access to the whole process starting with nominations right through to announcing the results? It is anticipated that uninterested committee members will determine the nominations that fulfil the criteria (it being an objective test); the independent party (ies) will tally the votes and confirm same to the ODC and the results will be sent to all nominees and posted on the website. We will then forward the nominations to the Council care of Shelley Windell.

  8. Which specific tab or dropdown arrow on the webpage opens the details for ordinary registered members to get details on the upcoming ODU election for candidates to stand on council? CLICK HERE for the OD List of nominees
  9. Who is eligible to stand as a candidate for council? Who is eligible to vote? Do ODU members have to be registered on the webpage in order to vote? As far as ODs are concerned, all ODs “in good standing”. In other words if they have paid the life subs. An OD is defined in the Constitution as being all past students of Bishops who have attended for at least 1 (one) year.
  10. Are ODs who did not matriculate at Bishops eligible to stand as candidates? Can ODs who did not matriculate at Bishops act as proposers and seconders? Yes
  11. What are the voting options: by email, physical paper delivered at the mitre building, "e-voting poll" or other voting processes? Online voting subject to those voters having registered on the website.  It will follow the standard procedure as per the OD Committee elections which I am sure most, if not all, have participated in.
  12. Please provide details. Is there clarity given on the webpage, again which particular dropdown arrow or tab needs to be clicked? The “voting campaign” will be prepared and uploaded once the nominations are finalised. Details will follow once it has been agreed and arranged with IT. Notices will be sent and appropriate info posted on the Website etc.
  13. As per my previous email, how many candidates does any one voter vote for during the election, will it be four votes per ballot? See above
  14. Who will preside over the ratification process to confirm all candidates are actually legally members of the ODU etc? Will the team of observers be ratifying this process right from the start as well? An independent party or parties – details to be confirmed.
  15. Where do ordinary members of the ODU find details on the timeline for the nomination, voting, election and announcement processes? They would have received the email (if they are on our database).  If not, then on other platforms
  16. Again, as per email below, who will act as part of the "team" of independent observers? Asked and answered above. Not yet determined.
  17. Importantly, who will appoint or select the team of independent observers? The OD Committee Will their names be made public on the webpage, prior to the whole election process? Not yet considered.
  18. Can ODU members appeal this process? No
  19. What functions will the team of independent observers perform? To count the votes
  20. Will the WHOLE AND COMPLETE process be fully open to scrutiny and ratification by the independent team if observers? Not determined. If deemed necessary.  However, given that we are all alumni and that we all subscribe to the values as per our constitution, we would think that the participating ODs would accept the honesty and integrity of the committee.
  21. Will YEAR and HOUSE be specified next to candidate's names (This is so much easier for the memory of voters and to follow up information on candidates via their peers and friends)? Yes
  22. Will an example voting ballot be posted on the webpage prior to voting? Not yet determined, but yes (if possible)
  23.  Will the candidates on the voting form be listed per matric year? Reverse or regular alphabetical order? Alphabetical, A to Z
  24. How many names will be put forward to the Bishops Council Nominations Committee and why? 8 ODs. The Bishops Council nominations committee is under no obligation to select the candidates put forward to the council. After numerous suggestions and discussions with ODs, the ODC decided it best to provide 8 democratically elected OD candidates to the nominations committee to maximise the potential for selection, should any of the first 4 be rejected.
  25. What are the requirements for nomination, seconding of candidates? Is this detail and process available on the ODU website? Is there a set form to be completed? It has been set out in the email. But, in essence:
  • A signed letter from the available candidate stating their willingness to serve and the skills set they believe they can bring to Council.
  • A recent resume reflecting their professional expertise and experience.
  • A letter from a person unrelated to the nominee, endorsing the nomination.
