Voting has started for OD nominations to the Bishops Council

It's a first - let's make it count!

Voting has started and it is an important moment in the history of the ODU.  This will be the first time that ODs will elect their candidates for the Bishops Council.

By 17:30 on Saturday, the 9th of November, a total of 533 votes had been Submitted by ODs.

Some things to be aware of when voting:

  • You need to have an activated profile on the ODU website:

To access the voting form, you will need to have an activated profile on the website as voting is for ODs only.  If you are logging in for the first time you may have to be 'approved' by the ODU office.  This is a simple check to make sure you are an OD and you will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.  Once received you can log in and vote.  CLICK HERE to login should this be you.

  • You have until 11 November to vote for four candidates:

Voting is open until 17:00 on 11 November. During this period, you can vote for up to four candidates from the list of nominees.

After voting closes, your votes will be counted by two independent parties, retired Justice Craig Howie (1956G) and James Foxcroft (1991K), ensuring fairness and transparency.

Once they have completed the counting, the candidates will be informed and the results will be communicated on the ODU website. This is expected to be on the morning of the 13th of November (earlier if possible, notwithstanding any unforeseen delays). The eight candidates with the most votes will be submitted to Shelley Windell by 15 November 2024. The Bishops Council nominations committee will then consider these candidates as recommended by the Bishops Council.

The Bishops Council nominations committee carefully considers all candidates put forward to the council but is not obligated to select any specific individual.

After thorough review and consultation, the ODC has decided to provide a list of eight democratically elected OD candidates to the nominations committee, allowing enough options to ensure the roles on the Bishops Council are filled.

You may have questions about the nomination process. Here is an article we wrote that may answer some of your questions regarding the nomination process. read more...

We look forward to receiving your vote.  Our target is to receive no less than 1000 votes from ODs across the globe.

Should you experience any difficulties with the voting process, please contact Lynn Swanevelder at oducomms@bishops.org.za
