The sad passing of Peter Gain (1950S)

PETER BARNES GAIN - 9 JUNE 1933 - 30 MAY 2025

We are sad to announce the passing of Peter Gain.

According to a school friend, the memorial service at St Martin`s-in-the Veld in Rosebank Johannesburg was well attended.

Peter was at Bishops from 1947 - 1950, and was a House Prefect in School House.  He completed his Matric with a First Class pass.

He played an active role in the life of the school, being a Corporal in the Cadet Corps, Captain of School Shooting, was awarded Senior House Cricket Colours and was a member of the School Swimming Team.

After leaving school he qualified as an Accountant and worked in banking after which he went into Industry as a consultant in investments and share issues. He was appointed a director of Barker Chissick Footwear Ltd, Johannesburg.

During his working life he loved his cricket at the Johannesburg Country Club.

In the messages that he sent to the ODU it is clear he was a dovoted family man and loved watching his children at their sport fixtures.

He stayed in touch with Bishops, as seen from the news snippets in the ODU section of the magazine.

Our deepest condolences got to his family.

Requiescat in Pace.
