The Classes of 56 and 58 meet at The Mitre.

26 Jan 2026
Reunions

Today Monday 26 January 2026 the Class of '56 and the Class of '58 had their Reunions at The Mitre, the former, 70 years out of school!

The morning began with a service of thanksgiving in the Brooke Chapel conducted by Bishop Christopher Gregorowski, with the College Chaplain Father Monwabisi Peter coming to wish the Leavers well.

Andy Wood the Executive Director and Paul Murray the ODA took the 56-ers and 58-ers on a tour of the school, concentrating on the impressive new additions such as The Ubuntu Learning Centre.  Before visiting there, a visit was paid to the Memorial Chapel that this year is 100 years old.

The ODs remembered their days with great pleasure, especially if they were in the choir with the iconic Dr Claude 'Bruno' Englefield Brown the Director of Music at the time both the 56-ers and 58-ers were at College.

There was a luncheon for the two Classes at The Mitre, where Andy Wood, Paul Murray, and Gisela Pla (the newly appointed ODU Administrator) and her daughter Alexei, were at the service of the ODs.

Craig Howie organised the Class of 56 Reunion, attended by Craig Howie, Jeremy Thornhill and Penny, Richard Rosenthal, Brian Spottiswoode, Christopher Gregorowski and Margaret, Russell and Jane Peters and Gerald Robinson and Marilyn.

John Green organised the 58 reunion, attended by John and Rosemary Green, David and Sally Carter, John Gaylord, David and Jenny Allday, Tim and Lorna Ross-Thompson, Chris and Seonaid Danzinger, Richard and Pat Bonnard, Robin and Rosemary Borden, Alan Baker, David Dicey, Viv James, Rob and Jenny Satchel, Mike and Brigette Boyes and Alec and Barbara McDonald.

Andy welcomed all, wishing our senior ODs and their wives/partners well and saying that we are looking forward to seeing them at The Mitre again soon.

The menu was salad and quiche and beverages, suitable for a rather hot day.
