Dr Syd Cullis (1960F) a regular visitor to The Mitre, presented a talk in The Mitre Lounge about the Warsaw Airlift in WWII and the Bishops connection.  The two ODs who died during it were both in Gray House; Eric Impey (1936G) and Ralph Lawson (1940G).

On a trip to Poland a few years ago, Dr Syd visited that Rackowicki Cemetery, specifically to honour the graves of these two OD's.

In his research, he discovered that his father Dr Robert Cullis (1935G), who was the year ahead of Eric in Gray House, was the Medical Officer of 25 Squadron SAAF - based less than 100ks from where Eric was at Foggia.

The talk was a narration with slides on the big smart screen.

Tea was served.

The Mitre will hold several more talks this year, including a talk on Florentine History, another on Empress Elizabeth of Austria, a talk on Nelson Madela, and another on the Lives of Sophy and Robert Gray (and a further talk, still to be arranged).  Eight schoolboy society meetings are scheduled for next semester, all taking place at The Mitre, to which ODs are welcome (details availabe on request), as well as another two joint OD/Music Department concerts, Historical Tours for the School Reunions, and OD hockey and rugby matches in Term 3.  These events are part of the programme of the OD Ambassador organised specially for ODs ... and are over and above all the many other events that are normally organised by the Events Co-ordinator and the ODU Office.

For further information about all these events, please follow the ODU Wedsite or contact the ODU Ambassador Paul Murray at pmurray@bishops.org.za or the ODU, Dedry Weich at odu@bishops.org.za
