Inaugural Bishops student's family visits the school.

The Milligan family from the UK came to trace their OD history footsteps. What a long journey back it is!

Caroline and Paul Milligan formerly of Zimbabwe, at school at Falcon College in Zimbabwe with Peter Westwood the College Deputy, visited Bishops today (21 August 2023) to show their family the Brooke Chapel where their great-great-great grandfather is memorialised (on the brass plaque).  Edward Welby (at Bishops, 1881 - 1885) fell in the war at Shangani in a battle with local inhabitants on 4 December 1893.

Edward's brother Hugh also attended Bishops (1880 - 1885).  They were the sons of one of Bishops' first intake, Henry Selby who was the Scholar in the first round of exams.

Today's visit (21 August 2023) marks a very historic occasion for Bishops, when Caroline, OD Henry Selby's ancestor, came to Bishops to show them where their distant family went to school.

Peter Westwood joined them on the tour; Caroline, Paul and Peter enjoyed reminiscing about their days at Falcon College.

Paul is currently an English Teacher at Priory Ruskin Academy and Belvoir High School & Caroline is the Chaplain there.  Their daughters and neices all attend school in the UK.

This is a classic example of ODs' families coming back to see where their forbears attended school, a great testimony of just how far and wide (and back) the OD network stretches.
